Fukushima Third Anniversary Peace Walk

For the third anniversary of the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster, Reverend Sawada Gyosen, a Buddhist monk, will be conducting a Peace Walk from Santa Barbara to Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant. On his journey, he will be praying and chanting for the victims of all nuclear tragedies and for a nuclear free world.

The walk will be preceded by a memorial event on March 3rd in Santa Barbara. (see details below)

On March 4th, Rev. Sawada will gather at the Santa Barbara Courthouse at 8am to offer prayers for the beginning of the Walk. All are welcome to participate and join him on his journey – for a few steps or much longer.

The Peace Walk will continue along this approximate schedule:

3/5 toward Santa Ynez.

3/6 toward Lompoc.

3/7 toward Vandenberg.

3/8 toward Guadalupe.

3/9 toward Arroyo Grande.

3/10 to Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant

On March 11th, Rev. Sawada will be holding a prayer vigil in front of Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant (8am – 4pm)

That evening, there will be a special event hosted by San Luis Obispo Mothers for Peace at the Steynberg Gallery in downtown San Luis Obispo. (Please go to their website for details.)

  • Barbara Gaughen-Muller, President, United Nations Association – USA /    Santa Barbara & Tri-Counties on Fukushima and the Santa Barbara Protocol.
  • Sawada Gyosen, a Buddhist monk from Japan, who will undertake a    Fukushima Memorial Walk, departing Santa Barbara on March 4 and arriving at Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant on March 11.
  • Jerry B. Brown, Ph.D., Director, Safe Energy Project, World Business Academy, who will release the results of the Academy’s Diablo Canyon Radiation-Health Study.
